Staff Spotlight: Barbara Gomez, Director of Events and Entertainment
Have you ever wondered who is behind all the events and activities we hold here at Balmoral Bar and Grill? Meet Barbara Gomez, director of Events and Entertainment. Her extensive experience in the entertainment industry has made her instrumental in making Haines City’s live music venue a Central Florida hotspot!
While Barbara has been employed with Balmoral for only about a year, she’s spent most of her life around entertainers, so she has developed an instant rapport with the fantastic musicians and other performers that Balmoral Bar & Grill showcases.
“I’ve been in entertainment my whole life,” she says. “I’ve been an entertainer myself since I was 10 years old.”
A genuine Central Florida native, Barbara was born right here in Haines City and began her career in the entertainment industry as a country and western singer when she was a child. She graduated from Bartow Senior High School in 1983.
Barbara was working in real estate last year when a professional associate introduced her to Garrett Kenny, Balmoral Bar & Grill’s owner. She was thrilled to accept his job offer and has been enthusiastically attracting talent to Haines City’s live music venue ever since.
“I’m in kind of a unique situation. The people that I worked with when I was in school — in grade school and high school — I’m actually working with them again, hiring them for Balmoral,” Barbara chuckles. “So the entertainers that are here in Central Florida, I actually know a lot of them that work for us. It’s been really cool getting to know them again in a different situation. I’ve had a lot of support from them, too. It’s been great.”
Her years of experience previously running the area’s largest recurring karaoke event in the ’90s have made it easy for Barbara to set up a fun karaoke night every Wednesday at Balmoral Bar & Grill with her friend, Rockin’ Robin.
When you visit Haines City’s live music venue, Barbara urges you to order her favorite from the menu, “The Cuban sandwich is to die for! It is delicious. We have excellent chefs.”
